Death to Twinkies!

The two popular excuses:

"If you can't beat em', join em'!" --> Pathetic
"Who cares? I don't care, neither should you!" --> Pathetic
Anything else that attampts to condone and rationalize Twinkies in the lower level arenas? You guess it! --> Pathetic!

"ahaha apply poison + melandrus ranger degen build = death to n00bies"

So, entering random arena makes you a "n00bie" than and bringing stuff that you shouldn't have at that point of game is "pro" and fun. Good to know.

i think a very big part of the answer is that GW is essentially two games, a story mode MMORPG and a PvP team based combat game - both are balanced differently.

the ascalon arena and yaks arenas are "in between" areas that don't quite know what they are and thus difficult / impossible to balance.

---

it appears the developers of GW have made every effort to make this game as accessible to players as possible. have you played any other MMORPG? the thought of going back to RO, ROSE, WOW, makes me sick because of the sheer grind and restrictions imposed on characters. among many of the shortcuts given to you in this game are like instant travel, no consumable items, fast free healing, no permanent death penalty, non grind levelling system, freely editable player attributes.... and we also have items and skills with no level requirements.

unbalanced yaks and ascalon arenas is a very small price to pay for all of this, considering that i would personally only spend 1% of my total playtime in those areas, and 49% of my time in the story mode and 50% of my time in Tombs or GvG.

AetherFox is right, goto other MMPORGs...as soon as you step into the area and waaaaaa..you just got pwned by someone 50 lvls higher than you.

But, let that not be an excuse to do lame stuff in low lvl areans, they should have item checks.

Agree, my FFXI accounts are about to go deactive... want to talk about grind.... (at least you can change your jobs at will)

I do agree they need to do something be it restrict armor, restrict any skill past yak bend, or make is so all the "l33t" people get pitted against each other and not against new players or someone who has not been to citadel and back...

I think changing the pairing if you have an elite skill, certain "flagged" skils, or 15k armor you fight others of your same.

I don't care how they fix it, I just want it fixed. Why do people insist on ruining others fun? I would love it A.net did a creative fix to this. Like if there is someone with restricted armor or skills, a mob of lvl 20 charr come in and gank them, repeatidly.

my counter to droknars armour in ascalone arena - i am running a Me/Ne fastcast multi hexer with multiple enchant strips -> i can quickly apply a -9 degen to target and strip healing breeze as necessary (which is the only healing they seem to use there)

oh wait. those skills are obtained by running to droknars anyway.

^_^

I HIGHLY doubt that you had Eviscerate in ascalon arenas.

It's technically possible to get Eviscerate before you hit 10, as you only need to complete three missions to get to Hell's Precipice.

Admittedly, a twink job of that magnitude would require some dedication, but it is entirely possible if you have 7 Guildmates who at least mediocre players and are willing to help you.

I appreciate the references to the other games I could possibly play and hate. But, I have never played them and probably never will. I enjoy the lower level arenas, I will not wait until level 20 before I do PvP.

I have nothing against people who rush to Droks for armor and skills for PvE.

If Anet can implement the code to prevent equipping two elites at once, it can implement the code to prevent equipping one elite in the arena lobbies at Ascalon and Yak's. I just don't think they think it's a problem, unlike many of us.

Yes, Aetherfox, there are skills that ignore armor. But if you are a ranger and you repeatedly shoot for 0 damage on someone wearing Droks? Hmm, somethin ain't right.

No, I'm pretty sure the Newbies go in there to compete for their first attempts at PVP.

Does anyone know if ArenaNet has an official position on this issue? I know they have officially stated they are okay with runners. That's fine and dandy. However, I really think they need to do something about these low level arenas, and I think many other people agree. How frustrating for the new players to not even have a chance to experience PvP on anything that even comes *close* to a level playing field!

There are many people who believe this game is really designed for PvP and the PvE is just a tutorial to that end (I don't really agree, but we don't need to discuss that here). If new players cannot even learn how to PvP in the smaller arenas, how will they have any hope of participating in the "main" portion of this game? Being "pwnd!!11!!!" by some immature fool with elite skills does not teach you anything about strategy, teamwork, or PvP in general. It teaches you that you "need" to twink out your character to have a chance at winning. Which is ridiculously false on so many levels.

*steps off her soapbox*

Anyway, does anyone recall hearing anything official from ArenaNet regarding this? This really needs adjusting in some way, I believe.

Me, I'm pretty sure many who go in there twinked to the teeth are not newbies.

However - what's the deal with the shiny golden armor of the guy on the posted pic? Don't think I've ever seen that effect.

It really all does come down to skill. I have 2 lvl 20 pve and i made my fourth - a ranger. i am completely against twinking when it comes to pvp- takes the fun out of so many games. having said that - i still beat the crap out of so many of you drokers and elites in ascalo - thank god i at leats had my gold bow............

however, once i hit lvl 11 - end of the ascalon arena - i did my first drok run and got the drok armor for her. I think that it is well deserved to twink and not have to go through all of the missions in this game once you have practically beaten it with 3 other characters.

yes, i am a lil bit of a hypocrit but I had to even the odds some.

Angry Its wrong!

/signed.
I agree, this crap in the low level arena's RUINs the PvP experience...its nothing but causing a bad day for someone else. Its the same thing as 20 year old smacking around a 13 year old, just for fun or to make themselves feel tough==>Pathetic. Hopefully A.net will take some of the good ideas posted by the community and implement them.

Every new character I make, I usually run them through Ascalon Arena a few times till I run into the twinks, then I quit the PvP part because I can't compete against cheaters. So by the time I get to the team arena's or Tombs, I have had no practice in PvP so I would be no good to any teams there. The Ascalon Arena in particular is no longer useful for its original purpose, which I believe was to introduce people to PvP and practice skills and builds. Now its only for Griefers and Faction Farmers

It was mentioned in a Fansite Friday (or maybe it was a different interview... don't feel like looking it up) and to paraphrase they basically said "as long as it's not widespread abuse, we're not going to spend time fixing it". Also I recall it being mentioned that the abusers will eventually level out, as if that's a real fix. Personally I was very disappointed to see that response.

It was much worse when you didn't get xp. Now at least at SOME point a tricked out char will be booted.

It's sort of funny. If Anet considers these folks "abusers," then punishment is meted out very very very slowly, 100xp at a time... "Yes, in about 150 more kills, you are outta here!! I mean it!"

It's fun stuff, especially on the rare occasion you can live through a Poison Arrow or Life Transfer long enough to kill something.

(<---still self-righteous about not being a twinkie)
